In our last blog, I shared that the 90s were back on trend for Fall - and boy oh boy are they ever! In seasons past we were seeing 90s trends like neon and crop tops, but this seasons we’re seeing more of the mid-90s alternative blend being influenced by some of the amazing bands coming out of this decade.
90s fashion has always been near and dear to my heart, having grown up in teen years during this time. When I look back at my alternative fashion, love of some of the biggest bands coming out like No Doubt, Counting Crows and Nirvana, and my love of on point skater trend; you know that this seasons selections are inspired by not only what’s happening in fashion but these trends.
The runways were littered with all kinds of great 90s fashions. It’s definitely a 90s revival this season. We’re seeing layering of great pieces like graphic tees, plaid, and hoodies. Leather jackets, distressed denim pieces and slouchy sweaters. Animal prints, beanie hats and even the hair and makeup trends on the runways were speaking 90s.
Many of the models were sporting natural curls or pin straight centre parted locks like we’ve seen a few decades ago with these trends. A smokey eye and either a light glossy or berry stained lip were all the rage. You can guarantee these trends are reminiscent of the ever popular Urban Decay makeup that took fashion magazines by storm in the 90s.
The key to looking 90s on trend but not going too far this season is the way that pieces are cut, giving them a fresh take on an old classic. We’re seeing hoodies made into gorgeous duster jackets. We’re seeing classic plaids given a fresh twist when made into a cute dress, adding a belt or wearing a super cute legging underneath. You’re seeing Dr. Martens continuing to make their come back in fun colours, and paired with an updated skinny jean with ‘just enough’ distressing, and polished cardigans that would make Kurt Cobain jealous with gorgeous buttons and a longer length to them.
This seasons is all about having fun and bringing back a classic with fun pieces you can add to any outfit! You’ll see plenty of these trends sprinkled throughout our new Fall arrivals this season… you’ll also see how the edgy Los Angeles, California street vibes play a role in pulling it all together. As always, we love bringing you the California vibes to Canada.
